Mandela Station is a community-centered, mixed-use development located on the site of the West Oakland BART station. Replacing an existing BART parking lot, the new transit-oriented development will create a pedestrian-centered intermodal transit destination that will become the cultural and economic heart of the larger West Oakland community. The approximately 1.2-acre project site is within a 5.58‐acre master planned site that includes market rate rental and a life-sciences office building and is designed to high-level environmental performance standards. Ground floor retail and public art will activate the street and public plaza surrounding the project and will serve residents, neighbors, visitors, and daily transit riders. Mandela Station contains significant opportunities for creative office, local serving retail and mixed income residential units, creating a vibrant and active mixed-use transit-oriented development community with open space and improved transit access.
